In Iran, if you are caught trafficking drugs, then it is punishable by execution.
In the last 15 years over 4,000 people have been executed for drug trafficking
and allegations have been made that Iran is using this law as an excuse to
execute anyone they wish.
In 1998 Vietnam handed down death sentences to eight drug traffickers; some
of those sentenced at the same trial included eight senior police officers
and three border guards.

Australian aborigine, Stephen Barnes, killed his nephew in a drunken brawl
and decided to take his punishment like a man. He received the traditional
tribal punishment of having his legs speared 15 times, nine stabs in the left
and six in the right. His sisters then hit him three times over the head with
a club.
After his punishment Barnes said, "I had to face it."

In Texas, USA, prisoners who are about to be executed have now been banned
from having a last cigarette. Authorities have said that it is bad for their
health and instead of a last cig they will in future be offered a stick of
celery to chew on.

During Roman times firemen would punish anybody whose carelessness caused
a fire, usually with a public beating on the spot.

In Uganda, President Idi Amin would have criminals executed with impunity.
The victim's families would then be charged £150 to get the body back.
He also cut down on execution costs by getting death row prisoners to hit
each other with sledgehammers, the last one living being given a pardon.

In Nigeria the Nbo tribe punish adulterous couples by tying the pair together,
ramming a stake through their chests then throwing them into a crocodile pool.

In Iran Islamic fundamentalists punish an adulterous woman by burying her
up to her neck and having a white cloth put over her head. The wronged family
then stand 20ft away and begin to hurl rocks at the victim's head, the rocks
being only big enough to maim but not kill instantly.
When the white cloth has turned completely red the stoning is stopped and
a relative of the condemned checks to see if they are still alive. If they
still breathe then the stoning continues.

In ancient Greece the punishment for committing adultery was to have
a root vegetable inserted into the anus.

In ancient China anyone who revealed the secret of making silk was sentenced
to death by torture.

In France, many years ago, if a woman was found guilty of adultery she was
made to chase a chicken through the streets naked.

An ancient statue of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius, the largest bronze
statue in existence, was once used as a gibbet to hang an unruly city prefect
by his hair in 965AD.

In ancient Egypt the punishment for killing a cat was death.

In 1857 an American soldier was found guilty of having sexual intercourse
with his horse. The court sentenced both the soldier and the horse to death.
Later the soldier's sentence was commuted to exile but the horse was still
executed.

In France, in 1740, a cow was hanged after being found guilty of sorcery.

In New Zealand, a cow was once sentenced to two days in prison for eating
the grass in front of the City Courthouse.

In the USA, in 1946, Willie Francis, aged 17, was sentenced to death in the
electric chair but despite repeated attempts to execute him the only thing
that Willie complained of was a headache and some minor visual distrubance.
A second death warrant was then signed and the following year Willie was again
strapped into the chair, but this time it worked!

In Afghanistan, in January 1999, a 60 year old paedophile was sentenced to
death by toppling a wall on top of him and having a tank drive over the rubble,
crushing him to death.
However the kiddie fiddler was only knocked unconcious and later came to totally
uninjured.
Since he had survived the execution under Taliban law he had to be released!

In Oklahoma, USA, in 1995, Robert Breechen, who was on death row, managed
to take an overdose of pills just hours before his lethal injection.
Prison officials rushed him to hospital, had his stomach pumped and rushed
him back to the prison where he was strapped down to the execution table.
He was executed on time!

In Maryland, USA, in May 1994, John Frederick Thanos, who murdered three teenagers
in 1990, was executed by lethal injection.
He may have got away with life imprisonment but for his big mouth! At a hearing
to determine if he should get the death penalty Thanos stated that he still
had a desire to "Dig these brat's bones out of their graves right now,
beat them into powder and urinate on them and then stir it into a mercury
yellowish elixir and serve it up to their loved ones!"
The judge then asked him for his preference, Death or Life imprisonment without
the possibilty of parole.
Thanos answered, "Life in prison with the possibility of escape!"
The rest is history!

In Washington, USA, in 1994, Mitchell Rupe, a double murderer, managed to
save himself from being executed after he gorged himself with pies until he
weighed over 450 pounds.
His lawyers argued that he would be instantly decapitated if he were hung,
which would be a "cruel and unusual punishment".
In 1994 the judge agreed that it would be unconstitutional and stopped the
execution.
Ironically Rupe is slowly dying from a painful liver disease due to his obesity!

In Sing Sing prison, USA, in 1934, notorious child killer and cannibal, Albert
Fish, was sent to the electric chair but when the switch was turned on the
electric charge short circuited through the dozens of needles that the old
man had deliberately inserted into his body.
In his testicles alone prison doctors found 29 needles!
All of the needles were removed from his body and he was strapped back into
the chair and executed without incident.

In France, in 1940, a man and three of his cows were executed by burning after
he was caught fucking the animals!

According to an expert hangman a 165 pound man will need to drop 8 feet 6
inches for a clean death.

In England, in 1948, Mr. William John Gray murdered his wife and was sentenced
to death by hanging.
However, he was reprieved when medical examiners decided that this punishment
would cause him too much pain.
This was based on the injuries he would sustain to his jaw. It was reported
that if he were hanged the noose would not dislocate his neck and that he
would either die from strangulation or be decapitated altogether as his jawbone
was too weak to hold the rope around his neck.
