This police photograph shows murderer Earle Nelson known as the 'Gorilla murderer' because of his very hairy hands. From 1926 to 1927 Nelson rented rooms while travelling across the United States, eventually raping and murdering an elderly landlady. He was hanged in Winnipeg in January 1928. Look carefully and you can see where police officers have severely beaten him about the face.
