In Houston, Texas, USA, in 1992, 53 year old Terry Wilson, a ten pin bowling
champion was charged with murder after he payed a hitman to break the arms
and legs of of his wife's lover.
Things went wrong, however, when the assassin hired to do the job accidentally
killed the love rival.

In Chicago, USA, John Mcenroe, the tennis superstar, was playing in a seniors
tournament when he lost his temper during the changeover. In a rage he threw
a half empty water bottle behind him, which then sailed over a wall hitting
a 10 year old boy in the stomach.
Mcenroe attempted to apologise, but the traumatised boy continued sobbing
and he and his family left the match.
Later on Mcenroe stated, "To see a kid upset is upsetting. I feel bad."

In Detroit, USA, in 1997, basketball player, Jalen Rose, was thrown off a
plane after he spat a piece of chewing gum at an Airport security officer
while going through a checkpoint.
He was annoyed that he hadn't been recognised.

In Snow Valley, California, USA, in February 1992, David James Erikson, aged
24, was speed skiing at over 85 miles per hour, when he crashed head on into
a snowmaking machine.
Erikson sustained serious head and chest injuries and died one hour after
the accident.
Mr. Benno Nager, the Snow Valley manager later stated, "It's a big, eight
foot, large object that you cannot miss, with bright orange stripes. There
are 300 of these things on the mountains. He clearly knew it was there!"

In Sweden, in October 1995, Mr. Bengt Akerblom, aged 28, was playing ice hockey
for his team, Mora, when a fellow player slipped on the ice in front of him,
his legs flying, and a skate blade flashed through the air, cutting Akerblom's
carotid artery, causing blood to spurt a great distance onto the ice.
Akerblom later died in hospital.

In Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1991, World Class 10,000 metre runner, Carl
Thackery, from England, missed out on the chance of running in the World Championships
when he ran into a six foot cactus.
Pulling the cactus needles out of his legs, he carried on running, but after
a few days his legs ballooned up so much that he couldn't run anymore.

In New York, USA, in January, 1992, amateur boxer, Daniel Caruso, was psyching
himself up for his match in the Golden Gloves Championship when he began punching
himself in the face.
Unfortunately for Caruso, he ended up breaking his own nose and the fight
doctors pronounced him unfit to fight.

In South Africa, a rugby match between the New Waves and the Early Stars had
to be abandoned after a shootout left one player dead, one critically injured
and six others with flesh wounds.
After the New Waves took the lead at half time, fans began throwing guns to
the home side and bombarded the visiting fans with rocks.
Later Police Detective Andre van Zyl, an avid rugby fan, stated, "Some
do not play the game the way we understand it should be played!"
